Gearing up for Celtic Connections

Martin O'NeillNews

Celtic Connections kicked off it’s 20th Anniversary yesterday and I’m really looking forward to the few shows I’m doing over there (and of course being back in Glasgow and catching up with lots of folk). First up, this weekend I’m playing as part of Duncan Lyall’s ‘New Voices’ piece, ‘Infinite Reflections’. This is revisiting the work that was premiered at Celtic Connections last year and will be the Album Launch for the CD of the same name. The gig is at 1pm this Sunday (20th) in the Mitchell Theatre.  Click here for tickets. Check out Duncan’s new website for more details and to purchase CD/Download – www.duncanlyall.com

Next weekend I’m looking forward to being part of Duncan Chisholm’s ‘Strathglass Suite’ on Saturday (26th), where we’ll be performing material from Duncan’s 3 records which make up the Strathglass Trilogy, ‘Farrar’, ‘Canaich’ and ‘Affric’. I believe this is already sold out, so if you have a ticket you’re in for a treat. On the Sunday (27th) I’ll be performing with Neil Yates as part of his his Five Countries Trio along with Romanian/Hungarian guitarist Zsolt Bende. Click here for tickets.

As well as the above shows, I’ll be doing a quick blast with the mighty Treacherous Orchestra at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards on Wednesday (30th), which is being held in Glasgow for the first time ever. We’ve been nominated for Best Group so we’re hoping to party afterwards… Who am I kidding, we’ll be partying anyway :-)
